When is a pro not a pro?
Online poker pro Dustin Schmidt used to be a professional golfer. At the age of 23 he suffered a career ending heart attack forcing him to return to the amateur ranks. The competitive spirit he had on the golf course has carried on to the felt where his career winnings have topped the $3m mark. A simple case of moving from one type of green playing surface to another? Well not quite.

Tom Dwan Nominated for Poker Hall of Fame.
The votes of thousands of poker players over a multiple-week period have been cast and counted, revealing a ten-name shortlist for the next addition to poker's hall of fame. The current Hall of Famers and a media circle will decide who makes it.

Caesars Cup skippers make their first selections
Team captains Annette Obrestad and Daniel Negreanu have made their opening picks for the inaugural Caesars Cup. 2008 World Series Main Event champion Peter Eastgate is the first name on the European team sheet with multiple bracelet winner Phil Ivey joining the Americas.

Poker Stars Czech-Slovak Tour under way
The opening leg of PokerStars’ new Czech-Slovak Poker Tour took place at the Card Casino in Prague last week. In the end it was Lukas Horak who took the honours outlasting a field of 122 runners to claim the $18,000 first prize.

Derek Kelly, the founder of the infamous Gutshot Club in London and the man behind Ireland’s new Voodoo Card Club, is the newest addition to the speaker line-up at Poker in the Park – August 13 & 14, 2009 in Leicester Square, London.
Masters of Poker Qualifiers Underway.
The European Masters of Poker is making its penultimate stop in Barcelona, Spain, for another tournament after a great event in Prague that attracted 258 runners. This made a prize pool of over a quarter of a million Euros.
