Pinch, punch, first day of the month. I would apologise for my absence since last Tuesday but I'm sure none of you noticed or cared. I've been having a remarkably poker-free week, being too busy turning 21 (watch out, Vegas!) at Reading festival to be concerned with such trivialities.

An amateur poker player from Shropshire will go head to head with Heavyweight Champion of the World Evander Holyfield in what promises to be one of the highlights of this week's Poker in the Park.

Over the weekend the second round of the Full Tilt Poker Doubles Championship began, with each of the 32 players buying in for $50,000 and having played on match already. The event airs each Saturday on GSN, the same US network that broadcasts High Stakes Poker.

The London Poker Festival kicked off in fine style yesterday with a host of big names in attendance for the opening flight of the World Poker Tour London Classic. At the close of play it was Erik Seidel who boasted the biggest stack followed by Talal Shakerchi and Bruce Atkinson.

Brandon Cantu has had plenty of success on the live tournament circuit including a pair of WSOP bracelets and a WPT title. Amazingly though he has never cashed on the European Poker Tour but unless something incredible occurs that should happen later today.
