Full Tilt Poker Doubles Championship – second round begins

Wednesday, 1 September 2010

Over the weekend the second round of the Full Tilt Poker Doubles Championship began, with each of the 32 players buying in for $50,000 and having played on match already. The event airs each Saturday on GSN, the same US network that broadcasts High Stakes Poker.

The fifth match of the event saw Howard Lederer and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond pairing up against David Chiu and Erik Lindgren after defeating the talkative pair of Phil Laak and Mike Matusow. Matusow left in style when their K-T couldn’t outdraw Galfond and Lederer’s A-9 all-in pre-flop: he ranted off and threw a bottle of water at Laak.

Galfond and Lederer continued their run when, in their match against Chiu and Lindgren, the chips went in before the flop with J-5 against their opponents’ A-6. A six on the turn seemed to end it before a trey on the river made the Galfond/Lederer team a winning straight.

Also playing were Annette Obrestad and Huck Seed against Gavin Smith and David Oppenheim – the former team got in trouble for discussing strategy; the rules state only one time out is allowed per hand for a strategy discussion.
