If a high street company stopped doing business and closed doors with nine figures in customer money locked behind said doors, we’d hear no end of it. If a sporting celebrity embezzled fans and students out of five figures, the back pages of the newspapers would shout it from the rooftops for weeks. Yet when similar situations happen in the world of online poker, short of the flurry of activity from observers (rarely anyone more relevant than railbirds and microstakes players) on NVG... nothing.

Finnish Omaha specialist Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has had a pretty crummy year thus far, especially at PokerStars. His “Ilari_FIN” account had lost over $800,000 when he first began playing on PokerStars instead of Full Tilt but finally he has begun to get some momentum and turn that deficit around.

The PokerStars Sunday Million continued last night, with 6,525 players pushing the prize pool over $1.3m and setting up a first prize of nearly $200,000 for one of the 990 players getting paid. With a little less than ten hours played, the final table was set with eventual winner Ponga80 starting second in chips but with position on the chip leader.

Irish pro Fintan Gavin was the last man standing of 519 entrants for the UKIPT Edinburgh Main Event over the weekend, defeating Andrew Hawksby heads-up for the first prize of £61,500 and the UKIPT title. He already has his eyes on last year’s UKIPT Edinburgh winner Nick Risk, though – he wants another UKIPT to match Risk’s pair.
