It was hosted in Ireland, dominated by the French and eventually won by an Englishman. Confused? What we're talking about is the European Short Handed Poker Championship which was held at Dublin's Ballsbridge Inn over the weekend, was sponsored by French site Winamax and won by scouser Steven King.

Full Tilt Poker nearing deal with French investor?
Jeff Ifrah, the lawyer for Full Tilt Poker, has revealed that a group of French investors are looking to purchase Full Tilt Poker – brand name, software, patents and $300m debt – in order to pay back players and re-launch the site.

The $5,200 Main Event of the 2011 World Championship of Online Poker reflected the whole 62-event series – a big guarantee and a bigger field with a gigantic first prize. The $8.14m prize pool created by 1,627 entrants in the Main Event boosted the total WCOOP prize pool to more than $45m across 62 events.

Janos Jeszek wins Betfair Poker Live! Dublin
There was plenty of tournament action on both sides of the Irish Sea over the weekend with David Wall winning the Genting Players title in Birmingham and Bobby O'Donnell taking the Irish Amateur Championship in Cork. In Dublin the main attraction was the opening stop of the new Betfair Poker Live Series which attracted a field of 73 runners who each paid the $600+$50 buy-in.
Bobby O'Donnell wins APAT Irish Championship
Amateur poker players from across the UK and Ireland gathered at the Macau Sporting Club in Cork over the weekend for the Irish leg of the Amateur Poker Association and Tour with Bobby O'Donnell winning the title.
