It's been a busy few days on the London tournament circuit. As well as the myriad attractions on offer at the Metropole for EPT London there was also the small matter of the latest £1,000 Big Game at the Palm Beach Casino.
Niall Smyth wins Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival
If Erik Seidel has been the don of tournament poker in the US in 2011 then Niall Smyth is his Irish equivalent. Smyth, who pocketed €650,000 after winning the Irish Open in June, added another €70,000 to his bankroll over the weekend after taking down the Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival in Killarney.

With just 62 of the 691 starters still standing (or should that be sitting) it's local lad James Mitchell who is the man to beat at EPT London. The 2010 Irish Open champion closed the day on 1,071,500 thanks in large part to hitting a set against Nikolas Liakos' pocket kings just before the close

Betfair admit data hack; over 3m usernames compromised.
Betfair has admitted that eighteen months ago, the personal details of customers had been accessed and stolen by hackers believed to be based in Cambodia. It is reported that 3.15m usernames and security questions; 2.9m usernames with addresses and 89,744 usernames with bank account details were compromised.

159 left at EPT London – Spindler leads, Brunson still challenging
The 691 runner field at EPT London has been whittled down to just 159 with Benny Spindler leading the way. The German pro has fond memories of playing in London, with a 12th place finish (and a spat with Annette Obrestad) in 2009 to his name. Nursing a stack of 459,000 he looks well placed to go even better this time.

A total of 280 players bought into the opening flight of EPT London at the Metropole Hotel yesterday and by the close just 162 were left in contention.
