The weekend saw some high stakes action launching us into 2011 with a bang as hundreds of thousands of dollars were won and lost at the nosebleed games on Full Tilt Poker. Poker players aren’t renowned as an honest and consistent bunch, if we’re... er, honest. This time last year, no one knew who Daniel Cates was. We knew of jungleman12 as one of the many victims of the rampant rise of Isildur1 in 2009 but besides being known as “that high stakes heads-up guy who lost half his bankroll” he was totally unknown.

When Jonathan Racener isn’t busy being handed a heads-up seat at the World Series of Poker November Nine final table by a 6-bet bluff from Joseph “subiime” Cheong, he’s apparently receiving DUIs. However, when he’s not doing that he is showing his tournament chops; following his WPT final table with a spot at the final of the PokerStars Super Tuesday.

The end result was as close to even as you can get playing $300/$600 with Cates winning $5,000.
