Everyone’s a winner on Full Tilt Poker.

It’s not the winning or the losing, our mums always told us, it’s the taking part. Of course, our mums are rubbish at poker.

On $400.000 coin flips

In the past week there has been some great action going on across Full Tilt Poker’s nosebleed games. There have been big pots, big coolers and big names throwing their toys out of the pram at each other. It’s excellent.

Busy month on PokerStars

This month at PokerStars things have been a little busier. In addition to the Sunday majors, the monthly Battle of the Planets Triple Shootout took place. This Sit n Go competition allows all SnG players to compete equally whether they play $1.10 tournaments or $5,000 tournaments.

PokerStars Sunday Majors pay out $290,000

The “Warm-Up” is quite an innocuous name for a $216 tournament that guarantees a $1,000,000 prize pool, we think. True, it does pale in comparison to the Sunday Million which has in previous weeks climbed as high as a $3m+ pool, but still – the Warm-Up is not to be sniffed at.

Danes and Finns dominate Full Tilt

It’s less than a month into 2009 and most people would be happy to count their poker winnings in the hundreds, or perhaps – if they’re ambitious – thousands. Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius have other ideas, however.

Durrrr's $1 000 000 challenge

The biggest talk of the week was Tom “durrrr” Dwan’s challenge to every player in the world (except Phil Galfond). Fifty thousand hands, four tables of at least $200/$400 NLHE, PLO or both and whoever finishes a dollar or more up after rake wins. If Dwan wins he receives $500,000 from his opponent plus whatever he won in the games; if he loses he pays out $1.5m on top of losses.

More than 8,000 players stumped up the $215 or satellited in to the Sunday Million last week, creating a first-place prize of nearly $190,000. The $1.5m guarantee was eclipsed by just over $153,000 for a total prize pool of $1,653,600.

The Sunday Warm-Up (it’s nice not to talk about the ‘Million for a change) absolutely obliterated its guarantee as 4,103 players stumped up $215 each to compete for an overall prize pool of $829,600. Obviously keen to make sure their pros went deep in the event, PokerStars threw the infamous doomswitch on an unfortunate player named flushdann544.

Cash Review: 2008 comes to a close, Galfond still earning...

Well, 2008 can be pretty aptly described as the year that online poker went a bit bonkers. Some people will probably remember the days when $50/$100 was the biggest game going and now stakes ten times that are being routinely played by the best players in the world. Brings a tear to your eye…

Cash Review: It's a Very Merry Christmas for Ivey
Cash Review: It's a Very Merry Christmas for Ivey

So since last week coincided with the universal time of goodwill and joy, the day upon which we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Phil Ivey, our schedule went a bit… well, it was as screwed-up as our heads after Christmas Eve at the pub.
