vakAAttack Takes Down 15,000-Strong WCoOP

vakAAttack Takes Down 15,000-Strong WCoOP

Monday, 7 September 2009

PokerStars once again broke records, this time hosting the biggest ever World Championship of Online Poker (WCoOP) event as over 15,000 players competed in Event #6, the $109 No-Limit Hold ‘em event.

This gigantic turnout crushed the $1m guarantee of one of only two WCOOP events with a buy-in of less than $200. A total prize pool of $1,567,500 saw the top 2,250 players paid with a handsome first-place prize of $183,334.81.

The ten-minute blind structure saw over 100 eliminations per minute in the first two hours, and by three hours the money bubble had burst. Five hours in, only 102 players were left standing.

The highest-finishing pro was 2006 WCOOP Main Event winner JC Tran, who finished in 35th place after being knocked down to just 1.5BBs. Eventually, the final table was set:

Seat 1: Percussion -- 2,597,963
Seat 2: razorbite -- 3,798,320
Seat 3: DHUSTLER15 -- 5,282,317
Seat 4: vakAAttack -- 10,828,554
Seat 5: THOR12345 -- 6,785,648
Seat 6: Dwayno86 -- 1,761,944
Seat 7: merkurstar -- 2,611,568
Seat 8: DonLeu -- 10,058,592
Seat 9: Rockkaholic -- 3,300,094

Heads-up between vakAAttack and DHUSTLER15 was very close – with blinds at 175,000/350,000 the two had stacks of 25m and 21m respectively. After 65 hands, the eventual winner had gained a near 2-1 chip lead.

The final hand was enough to send the “PokerStars is rigged” morons into fits of happiness – a raised pot saw the two check down to the river of a K877Q board – DHUSTLER15 shoved over vakAAttack’s overbet and received a call. He showed QQ for a rivered full house while vakAAttack flipped 77 for quads!

The full final table placings and prizes are as follows:

2. DHUSTLER15 (United States) -- $133,237.51
3. merkurstar (Germany) -- $101,887.51
