Ziigmund Takes Dwan for $420,000

Friday, 4 September 2009

The action on Full Tilt Poker hasn’t diminished at all – just this morning, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies squared up in a heads-up Omaha session today that saw the Finn win the better part of half a million.

This $420,000 profit, netted over a relatively short session, has gone some way to eradicating the $600,000 hole that Ilari dug for himself earlier in the week. Barry Greenstein has called Ziigmund “one of the best Omaha players in the world” and Dwan is generally considered to be one of the same.

The edges were small but the swings and pots were huge – in one hand, the two got it in on a 8s-6s-Kh flop in a 3-bet pot for a $150,176 pile of virtual chips. Ziigmund had flopped the nuts with Kd-Ks-Jd-Td and durrrr had 4d-5h-7h-Ah for a 13-card wrap and a backdoor flush draw.

This put the odds at 54-46 in the Finn’s favour. Despite Dwan bricking the turn, the Th still gave him a 42% to win the pot. The Ac on the river sealed the deal and shipped the biggest pot of the session to Ilari.
