SuperStar Showdown - Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer wins

Monday, 4 April 2011

After despatching and then losing to Daniel Negreanu in a special edition of the SuperStar Showdown lasting two weeks, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom took to the PokerStars tables again last night to battle long-time nemesis Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer across four tables of $50/$100 heads-up.

Given unlimited time and money these two, who have clashed numerous times in the past on both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, would probably prefer ten tables of $300/$600 but the SuperStar Showdown has its rules. The match was, as expected, aggressive and swingy to provide a treat for the rail.

After just 132 hands Palmer was ahead almost $30,000 after turning a set against an overpair and then getting it in for $10,000 holding Ks-8s against 9-7 on T-7-2 with a flush draw, rivering not a spade but an eight. A hundred hands later and his lead was nearing $60,000.

It took less than 200 hands more for Blom to get it back, taking a $5,000 lead after a few pots went his way including rivering a third Q holding an overpair against Palmer’s two pair.

With just over 1,000 hands to go Blom was ahead by $50,000 instead but Palmer took just 165 hands to get back to even after holding with two pair against a flush draw. After this, Blom took another $30,000 lead until on one of the last hands of the match he bluffed all-in with T-8 on the river of a 7-5-4-2-2 board – Palmer snapped him off with 5-5 to take a $6,000 lead.

In the end with 2,500 hands complete Palmer wins by just $5,425 with both players keen for round two of another 2,500 hands next week.
