Ran77 takes down PokerStars Sunday Million
Monday, 7 December 2009
The first Sunday Million of the Christmas period didn’t see lots of joy and giving – as a matter of fact, there was deception and sadness all around after players bluffed, sucked out and coolered their way to the final nine.
Precisely, 8,626 players signed up for the tournament, which shot the prize pool over the $1.5m guarantee to $1,725,200. This meant a $250,000+ first place prize, which loomed large over players as the final table was finalised:
Seat 1: Fymez (4,079,238 in chips)
Seat 2: Team Angle (10,733,884 in chips)
Seat 3: PearlJammer (11,164,384 in chips)
Seat 4: aaronmermel (7,895,632 in chips)
Seat 5: paushtero (9,323,380 in chips)
Seat 6: Cynicism328 (11,280,170 in chips)
Seat 7: ran77 (4,866,362 in chips)
Seat 8: umbrillo (2,488,362 in chips)
Seat 9: SeraphimV (24,428,588 in chips)
The very first hand saw shortstacked umbrillo shove and hit the rail with 88 vs KK, setting the tone for a fast-paced and action-packed final table. With four players left, no talks of a deal had been broached and ran77 was the short-stack.
However, a timely double-up through third-place aaronmermel with AA vs 66 shot him to the chip lead, taking him heads-up against SeraphimV with a 2.4-1 chip advantage.
Initially talks of a deal were quashed, but SeraphimV had come very close to taking the chip lead, evening the stacks considerably with both players hovering around 40,000,000. Eventually they chopped for $208k/$200k with ran77 getting the change and $30,000 being saved for the winner.
A few hands later, the two got it in with A9 and 33. A 757 board gave ran77’s A9 some extra outs, but they proved unnecessary after a 9 turn sealed the deal.
The full final table positions and payouts are as follows:
1. ran77 ($238,685.72)
2. SeraphimV ($200,554.88)
3. Team Angle ($129,390.00)

5. PearlJammer ($69,000.00)
6. Cynicism328 ($51,756.00)
7. paushtero ($34,504.00)
8. Fymez ($18,977.20)
