PokerStars hosts two Sunday Millions and Warm-Ups

Monday, 17 October 2011

PokerStars don’t do things by halves. When they announced that the $1m guaranteed Sunday Million and the $500,000 guaranteed Sunday Warm-Up – both merely a $200 buy-in – would be running twice, we didn’t doubt that the total of $3m in guarantees would be met.

Of course it was. The first run of the Sunday Million received 7,046 players for a prize pool of more than $1.4m; the second, kicking off just half an hour later, saw 5,642 players to just tip the prize pool over the seven-figure mark. Earlier that day, both Sunday Warm-Ups had attracted 4,063 and 3,816 players respectively for an $812k and $763k prize pool.

Mexico’s “knecht_poker” added a victory to his WCOOP 2010 bracelet, taking down the larger of the Sunday Warm-Ups for $115,500 after a heads-up deal with Canadian oplayer “inheritance”. Meanwhile, “acozubi” won the larger Sunday Million, shipping a cool $145,000 after negotiating a five-way deal at the final table.
