PokerStars host record-breaking $2.5m guaranteed
Monday, 16 November 2009
Just because they can, PokerStars decided to top out the guarantee on their weekly $1.5m Sunday Million tournament by a cool million. The $2.5m guarantee was obviously too much incentive, as 18,283 players signed up to shatter records.
Previously, the largest ever $215 buy-in Sunday Million was during World Record Week last December when over 16,000 players competed. Last night, the prize pool topped $3,656,000 with the top six places guaranteed six figures and first-place prize of $365,670.77.
The final table began after nearly 11 hours, with blinds of 500,000/1,000,000 and a running ante of 100,000 – considering play started with 10,000 stacks, that’s one hell of a lot.
Seat 1: ZyeD3 (22,839,804 in chips)
Seat 2: Zadman5311 (17,636,300 in chips)
Seat 3: The Omaholic (18,935,611 in chips)
Seat 4: MATPOC28 (18,997,596 in chips)
Seat 5: m8675309a (24,108,668 in chips)
Seat 6: Guldlemmen4 (43,419,898 in chips)
Seat 7: waWe (15,883,436 in chips)
Seat 8: E-Daddie (7,938,832 in chips)
Seat 9: call110 (13,069,855 in chips)
Six remaining players later agreed to a chip-chop deal leaving $30,000 aside for the eventual winner:
Seat 1: ZyeD3 (15,519,804 in chips) = $144,353.10
Seat 2: Zadman5311 (44,532,600 in chips) = $252,662.86
Seat 5: m8675309a (30,384,279 in chips) = $200,844.74
Seat 6: Guldlemmen4 (23,099,863 in chips) = $177,650.76
Seat 7: waWe (30,553,744 in chips) = $205,477.38
Seat 9: call110 (38,739,710 in chips) = $250,037.00
Zadman5311 wound up heads-up with m8675309a holding a near 2-1 chip deficit. However, over 30 hands he chipped up in a series of small pots to take a 3-1 chip lead. Eventually he called the all-in from his shortstacked opponent, holding A4 to QTo and sweating a low board to take a total purse of $282,662.86.
The full final table placings and payouts are as follows:
