PokerStars WCOOP Main Event winner to take $2,000,000

Friday, 10 September 2010

Bluff Europe was listening to the Two Plus Two Pokercast recently and ‘PokerStars Brian’, the Tournament Manager, stated that last year the WCoOP Main Event prize was $2m. We corrected him in our heads – Yevgeniy “jovial gent” Timoshenko in fact won ‘only’ $1.7m.

Well, they’ve shown us. This year PokerStars have announced that in addition to the $10,000,000 guarantee on the $5,200 buy-in two-day Main Event, the first place prize will be set at $2,000,000. This is the largest first place payout in online tournament history.

The Main Event begins on September 26 but until then you still have dozens of events to look forward to, even discounting the ones that have passed and already awarded over $12,000,000. The total guarantee for the 2010 WCOOP is $50,000,000.

Last year WPT champion Yevgeniy Timoshenko won $1,715,200 for taking down the Main Event that marked the end of a 45-event, $52m online poker tournament series.
