Pinch, punch and $168k for the first Sunday Million of the month.

Saturday, 7 March 2009

March got off to a nice start for one StefanProdan, who took down the Sunday Million for a nice $168k score after a four-way deal. The tournament saw 8,664 players smash the guarantee and bring it to well over $1.7m in total prizes.

There was just under ten hours of play after the first hand was dealt until the final table was reached – the lineup looked a little like this:

Seat 1: IRENE666 (7,673,697 in chips)
Seat 2: Vincent Eley (3,081,820 in chips)
Seat 3: StefanProdan (9,465,052 in chips)
Seat 4: jbrown04 (10,857,952 in chips)
Seat 5: Princess480 (9,237,726 in chips)
Seat 6: wywrotX (15,860,950 in chips)
Seat 7: G6Dragon (5,704,071 in chips)
Seat 8: Bob Vitis (17,009,023 in chips)
Seat 9: WlkRambo (7,749,709 in chips)

Actually, it looked exactly like that. Shortstack Vincent Eley predictably fell first, getting his scant amount of chips into the middle with a dominated ace. G6dragon repeated the trick with AT against IRENE666’s AQ and left moments later.

IRENE666 looked like the next to fall with barely $1m left after a huge pot lost, but some timely double-ups saw them back at $7m and coasting nicely. Princess480 hit the rail next and then IRENE666 lost a coinflip to finish 6th.

With four left after StefanProdan’s JJ ousted WlkRambo holding 66, the remaining players struck a deal based on chip counts after over ten minutes of negotiation: Seat 3: StefanProdan (28,510,154 in chips) = $138,296.06
Seat 4: jbrown04 (37,166,120 in chips) = $152,046.89
Seat 6: wywrotX (8,252,933 in chips) = $100,000.00
Seat 8: Bob Vitis (12,710,793 in chips) = $104,868.73

After that wywrotX got it in with Q2 only to run into AQ and be sent home, albeit with $100k. The very next hand, jbrown and Bob Vitis got it in with Ac-8c and Kd-Qd respectively. The flop brought the former a flush draw and the latter a lucky pair, however the third club on the turn sealed the deal.

StefanProdan played exceptionally heads-up, doubling through and eventually gaining a significant chip lead. In the end he got it in with 98o against KJ but a rivered nine shipped him the title.
