Phil Galfond Wins Nearly $800,000

Monday, 21 September 2009

While Ivey was busy taking the better part of $1,000,000 from Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies in a series of six-figure coinflips, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond kept up the good name of Phil by netting $757,944 at $200/$400 PLO in just 1,400 hands.

It’s not surprising that he also took down the largest pot of the day, at least in terms of big blinds. In fact, the largest pot was a $400,000 one but it hardly counts as it was an Ivey/Ilari flip.

The $240,000 behemoth that Galfond took down occurred playing 250BB deep against Urindanger, with a short-stacked Gus Hansen along for the ride. After all three players called Di Dang’s raise pre-flop, all the stacks went in on a Kc-Qh-3c board.

Hansen had KJT3 for top pair and a big straight draw; Di Dang showed QQ97 double-suited for middle set and Galfond AA76 double-suited for an overpair with the nut flush draw. The 5c on the turn tipped the scales in his favour, and a blank 2h on the river shipped him the pot.
