Gus Hansen’s Comeback Stops With $212k Loss.

Sunday, 20 September 2009

A few days ago we reported that Gus Hansen, who lost more than $3m in August at the Hold ‘em and PLO tables, had made something of a comeback with a $321,000 score at the $200/$400 PLO tables at Full Tilt Poker.

However, this upswing has come to a resounding halt after the Danish pro lost over $200,000 at the same tables yesterday, mostly to Ashton “theASHMAN103” Griffin and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond.

Griffin has had a fantastic year so far with results in the black to the tune of almost $3m, just behind Patrik Antonius and Cole “CTS” South. He won $160,000 – mostly from Hansen – in a session that included the largest pot of the day, ironically picked up with the second best hand.

Pre-flop, Vega_Lion limped for $400 with his $16k stack. Hansen potted and theASHMAN103 called, only to see Vega_Lion make it $10k. Hansen called and Griffin re-potted to put Vega_Lion all in. Hansen called the bet then called Griffin’s shove on a 2s-4h-9s board.

Vega_Lion had the best hand with AA52 for a straight draw and overpair. Griffin held AKJJ for a lower pair and Hansen had 9876 for top pair and a backdoor straight draw. The Ac on the turn and 4c on the river sent Vega the side pot of around $50,000 while Ashton Griffin took the $186,000 side pot.
