Grifo173 Wins PokerStars Sunday Million
Monday, 26 October 2009
No deal was negotiated at the PokerStars Sunday Million this week, meaning that eventual winner grifo173 took the full $242,000 first prize when he bested a field of 8,242 to take down online poker's largest weekly tournament.
The final table took a little under nine hours to get down to; not bad considering the increased size of the field. At the beginning of play, the chip counts looked like this:
Seat 1: deoxyribo (14,538,925 in chips)
Seat 2: subby1 (8,078,530 in chips)
Seat 3: grifo173 (15,358,479 in chips)
Seat 4: moseley8 (8,669,948 in chips)
Seat 5: JBlaze20 (8,693,022 in chips)
Seat 6: tobias fuke (4,127,000 in chips)
Seat 7: AKSchwan (5,456,349 in chips)
Seat 8: nickj7777 (5,699,925 in chips)
Seat 9: Pokerpiggen (11,797,822 in chips)
Eventual winner grifo173 came to the table with a notable, but not overwhelming chip lead. He used this to his advantage at the final table, bullying players all over the table and eliminating five opponents on the way to a 3-1 chip advantage against deoxyribo in heads-up play.
Talks for a deal shut down, and then grifo173 called his opponent's all-in holding AT against KQ. A flopped set of trips plus a turned full house guaranteed him a near quarter-million payout.
