Cash Review: Hastings Feels The Sting

Cash Review: Hastings Feels The Sting

Tuesday, 18 November 2008

It’s tough being a young online pro. Just ask Brian ‘Stinger’ Hastings, CardRunners instructor and limit hold'em-crusher extraordinaire. Just this week he had to deal with downswings and upswings involving more money than the average British citizen makes in over ten years.

At the beginning of this week the young poker connoisseur dabbled, as you do, in a spot of $200/$400 H.O.R.S.E. Because sometimes $1,000 pots just aren’t enough and one form of poker doesn’t quite cut it. Stinger wound up dropping almost $400,000 in his early-week session in complete contrast to Nuts78 – the latter ran like God to make it a +$574k day at the same tables.

Let’s not feel too bad for Brian and start sympathising with a certain Mr Hansen – the day after Hastings’s disastrous H.O.R.S.E. session the two played some intense hours of Pot-Limit Omaha during which the CardRunners pro destroyed Gus for nearly $700,000. Stinger finished the day $617k in the black.

Meanwhile the Hellmuth-christened ‘young internet kids’ continued to dominate elsewhere – Justin ‘BoostedJ’ Smith finished a huge heads-up session with a near-1,000BB stack. At $100/$200. Smith, who turns 21 in a couple of months, left a $100/$200 heads-up session with ioi on Full Tilt in possession of a $177k stack. This included calling down a bluff attempt for $48,000 – Hastings and Smith are proving that the young guns are firing still. That said, Patrik ‘God’ Antonius finished up $432k yesterday, so the old guard are still packing some heavy artillery. With that over-extended weapons metaphor, we round off this week’s high-stakes cash game news.
