Brian Townsend loses over $600,000

Monday, 17 May 2010

Unfortunately it seems that Brian Townsend’s bankroll isn’t going to return to its 2009 level quite yet. After losing more than $2.5m at the nosebleed Hold ‘em and PLO games at Full Tilt Poker it seemed the CardRunners instructor was on his way back up.

The entire CardRunners team ran badly over the weekend – Cole South lost $50,000 and Townsend managed to drop a spectacular $620,500 over less than 2,200 hands. He mostly played $300/$600 PLO, notably a heads-up game against fellow Red Pro David Oppenheim. Unfortunately, Oppenheim finished the day up six figures and Townsend couldn’t get anything going.

In their largest pot, Oppenheim called Townsend’s button raise to see a 6s-8h-3s flop. He checked and raised Townsend’s $3,000 bet to $8,400 only to see Townsend come over the top for $20,000 more. The rest of the stacks went in to build a $141,600 pot with Townsend holding As-Jd-4h-2s for the nut flush draw and a gutshot straight draw. Oppenheim’s 9s-8c-8d-7h had a massive 78% equity with top set and a bigger straight draw, though and Townsend couldn’t get there with the river making his opponent a full house.
