Bot ring discovered and stamped out at PokerStars

Bot ring discovered and stamped out at PokerStars

Friday, 23 July 2010

PokerStars last week froze ten player accounts after discovering an illegal bot ring making the rounds in the small stakes games. From NL50 to NL200 6-max, the bots had played over 8,000,000 hands between them and accumulated $57,839.

Anyone who has dealt with PokerStars’s support team know that they are very quick, very efficient and concerned above all else with player satisfaction and security. As always, the threat was first detected on the Two Plus Two forums before cash game tracking site PokerTableRatings expounded the evidence further.

It was found that the ten bots – who generated almost $200,000 in rake and thus VPPs – had near-identical statistics with only 0.1 or 0.2 per cent difference between two different accounts. PokerStars has frozen the account and will soon be in the process of returning money to players.
