A late start doesn’t stop big prizes in the Sunday Million

Wednesday, 11 March 2009

TheGoingRate took down last Sunday’s major poker tournament as the PokerStars Sunday Million generated a $1.6m prize pool. Pushed back an hour due to Daylight Savings meaning US players came out of their caves blinking in the sun and confused about the time.

Eventual winner TheGoingRate eliminated the final table bubble boy after his pair of kings held up, and coincidentally at the same time Confused1 was eliminated, meaning the final table began with eight players:

Seat 1: steakstud (12,810,218 in chips)
Seat 3: kuzman89 (13,895,878 in chips)
Seat 4: apestyles (3,371,005 in chips)
Seat 5: George2Loose (9,643,436 in chips)
Seat 6: ferminaitor (6,382,976 in chips)
Seat 7: Kürschner (14,867,583 in chips)
Seat 8: 1stAir (8,676,112 in chips)
Seat 9: TheGoingRate (11,532,792 in chips)
1stAir, feminaitor, George2Loose and apestyles all fell short, hitting the rail early on. When it was four-handed the remaining players discussed a deal and eventually settled on these numbers with $30,000 aside for the winner:
Seat 1: steakstud (25,342,228 in chips) = $127,661.43
Seat 3: kuzman89 (14,710,985 in chips) = $105,097.14
Seat 7: Kürschner (27,836,495 in chips) = $132,955.39
Seat 9: TheGoingRate (13,290,292 in chips) = $102,081.79
After a while TheGoingRate got heads-up with steakstud holding a mighty 4-1 chiplead. After six hands, all the money flew in on a 7d-Jh-Qc-Jd board. steakstud held A7 and TheGoingRate Q4, which held up to ship him the monies.
