Zimnan Ziyard heads EPT Loutraki final table

Sunday, 20 November 2011

British players have enjoyed great success on the PokerStars European Poker Tour in recent times and there could be even more in the offing at EPT Loutraki with Zimnan Ziyard holding a big chip lead going into the final table.

The Eastbourne youngster goes into the final day with a stack of 2,771,000, over 1m ahead of closest rival John Taramas on 1,755,000. Given the recent great run by German players at the WSOP and the Nations Cup you wouldn't bet against one of the three left at the EPT Loutraki final table taking the title. Pierre Mothes starts the day third in chips on 1,730,000 followed by Hauke Heseding on 1,660,000 and Mario Puccinni on 1,077,000. Austria's Florian Schleps has 850,000 with Day 3 chip leader Charalampos Kapernopoulos on 749,000. Andras Kovacs is the short stack on 210,000, fewer than nine big blinds.

All eyes will be on Ziyard though as he goes for his first major title. The UK tournament regular cashed at EPT Deauville earlier this year and followed it up with a final table finish (and $71,000) at the $3k PLO event at the WSOP. The former Imperial College student is guaranteed a pay day of at least €27,000 but will be hoping for much better than that. The top four finishers will all take home six-figures with the winner walking away with a cool €347,000.
