World Series of Poker Europe Day 3 completed

Monday, 27 September 2010

The £10,350 Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe is down to a final 22 players who return at noon today in order to decide who will be at the final table in competition for a £830,401 first prize and a WSOP bracelet.

It’s sure to be a heavyweight final table, too. The consequences of certain players winning far outweigh the first prize and bracelet offers too – if Phil Ivey takes it down he will have nine WSOP bracelets to his name; if Viktor Blom wins then we will probably see Isildur1 back at the nosebleed tables taking on durrrr; if Roland de Wolfe wins we’re due some hilarious interviews, etc. etc.

With just 22 players left let’s take a look at just some of the names in contention when Day 4 begins at noon with blinds at 4,000/8,000/1,000:

Phil Ivey (657,000) : Almost undisputedly the best poker player in the world, Ivey has eight WSOP bracelets under his belt but none from Europe... yet. If he wins this event (or any WSOP event in 2011) then Howard Lederer owes him $5,000,000.

Roland de Wolfe (113,500) : A UK poker legend and former poker journalist, de Wolfe is one of only two players to have achieved the coveted Triple Crown of a WPT, EPT and WSOP title.

Viktor Blom (705,000) : Blom is a Swedish online legend behind the Isildur1 saga; he won $7,000,000 from Tom “durrrr” Dwan and other pros before losing it back. Played Ivey, Antonius and Dwan heads-up at the same time.

Arnaud Mattern (468,000) : Were it not for David Benyamine then Mattern might well be considered the best French player. The PokerStars pro has an EPT title and $1.73m in tournament winnings.

And they’re just four of the twenty-two! Joining them are Barny Boatman, Greg Mueller, Andrew Pantling and Victory Poker CEO Dan Fleyshman. We’ll bring you live reporting once again from noon today.
