Will Failla and Vanessa Selbst leading WPT Borgata Day 1a

Monday, 19 September 2011

WPT Legends of Poker champion Will Failla has had one hell of a month. After shipping the Legends event at Los Angeles’ Bicycle Casino for $758,000, he has not only made a deep run at the Partouche Poker Tour but also managed to rack up a top five chip count at the WPT Borgata $3,500 re-entry event.

The re-entry format is new to WPT Borgata with pundits predicting a total field of up to 1,400 based on the format, whereby players who bust out on one opening flight can return the next day for another shot at making Day 2. Failla won’t need it though, having bagged up almost 200,000 chips from his 30,000 starting stack on Day 1a.

Leading the way into Day 2 so far is Abe Korotki, who is the only player to cross the 200k milestone with a staggering 260,100 in chips. Another who won’t need the re-entry – though she could doubtless afford it – is Vanessa Selbst, who tagged and bagged 198,675 by the end of Day 1a. Reigning WPT Borgata champion Dwyte Pilgrim busted Day 1a but we’d be surprised if he didn’t return this evening for Day 1b with another $3,500 to defend his title.

Other survivors of Day 1a who have saved $3,500 include John Racener, Matt Glantz, Erik Cajelais, Jonathan Little and Allen “chainsaw” Kessler.
