Belgium's Wesley Nobels has been crowned the Mediterranean Deepstack Poker Champion after outlasting a 150-runner field at the Casino Portoroz in Slovenia over the weekend.

The 21-year-old is proving something of a specialist in the longer format of the game having previously cashed in two previous D4 Deeptstack events. He did even better this time though, defeating countryman Raf de Wever heads up to bag a first prize of €17,900.

There was plenty of side action in addition to the €550 Main Event with Italy's Giberto Duidi beating England's Saigari Balasubrama Niam and Chas Chattha in the €300 tournament. Another Englishman, Nick Slade took down the €200 side event pocketing €2,600.

The next leg on the deepstack calendar is the Belgian Deepstack Poker Championship at the Casino Namur which gets under way on 28th July. The action then heads to Blighty for the "Goliath" at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on 24th August followed by the English Deepstack Poker Championship at the Broadway Casino in Birmingham from 15th to 18th September.
