Mattern survives a pre-flop cooler... just. Bord new chip leader.

We came back out to the floor of The Empire to find a crowd around the upstairs table where Arnaud Mattern and James Bord were both out of their seats with a pile of chips in the middle. The dealer moved Q-Q and A-A into the centre of the table and we deduced Mattern held the ladies from his despondent expression.

The board ran out 6-7-3-8-J prompting a fist pump from one player and a bowed head from the other. “Good luck guys,” said Mattern as he went to leave and the action paused on all three tables to re-draw to two. But wait!

The chip counts were very close and after staff counted down Mattern’s stack it was revealed that he had 12,000 chips remaining – in layman’s terms, three big blinds. All but four chips were given to James Bord who is our new chip leader on 920,000.

We expect to write up news of Mattern’s demise soon but stranger things have happened than a 3xBB comeback.
