WSOP 2011 - $25k NL Heads-Up Championship final eight set

Thursday, 2 June 2011

The field of 128 players at the first ever $25,000 Heads-Up NL Championship event at the WSOP is down to a final eight after the return of sixteen – and departure of eight – surviving players during yesterday’s Day 2 play. Jake Cody is flying the flag for the UK and going for the Triple Crown in the toughest event of the summer.

Heads-up tournament specialist Olivier Busquet was joined on the rail today by Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker, John Duthie and Tom “durrrr” Dwan who lost an epic match to WSOPE Heads-Up champion Gus Hansen. Lyndaker, Busquet, Duthie and Dwan joined four others in the Day 2 elimination camp with a total of $67,436 for their efforts in making it to the final sixteen.

Cody and Hansen are joined tonight by Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, David Paredes, Eric “efro” Froelich and Nikolay Evdakov.

Tonight, Cody will take on Anthony Guetti, who beat out David Benyamine and Richard Lyndaker to make it this far. While Cody looks for his Triple Crown, Hansen is trying to maintain back-to-back WSOP Heads-Up titles after his September WSOPE victory in London. He takes on ADZ124 tonight while Timoshenko will play Paredes and E-fro takes on Russian player Endakov.

The winner of this event will receive the first open bracelet of 2011 as well as a cool $850,000 for defeating one of the toughest heads-up fields assembled at the WSOP.
