$10,000 six-max NL Hold'em Day 1 complete – Sternberg leads

Tuesday, 28 June 2011

The $10,000 short-handed No Limit Hold'em Championship event was one of the most eagerly encountered tournaments at this year's WSOP and the Day 1 action didn't disappoint.

As expected, the impressive 474-runner field was a who's who of tournament poker with the old time pros and internet generation well represented. By the close of play almost two thirds of the field had been eliminated leaving 162 players battling it out for a share of the whopping $4,455,600 prize pool.

Leading the way at bagging up time was Alan Sternberg on 260,000. Joining the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star winner in the upper echelons of the leader board are the likes of David Benefield, McClean Karr and $10,000 H.O.R.S.E Champion Fabrice Soulier not to mention the two most recent Main Event winners, Joe Cada and Jonathan Duhamel.

A host of top names are dotted lower down the field including ElkY, Justin Smith, David 'Bakes' Baker, Phil Laak and Freddy Deeb. There is a very healthy British presence left too with Jake Cody leading the way in 6th. Double bracelet winner Praz Bansi is also riding high, as are James Akenhead, Tom Middleton, JP Kelly and Devilfish.

The actions resumes tonight at 10.30pm UK time. Join us tomorrow to see who is still in contention for a $1,158,481 payday.
