Phil Gordon wins the fourth annual Ante up for Africa

Tuesday, 6 July 2010

The fourth annual Ante up for Africa charity tournament saw a prize pool of over $400,000; a percentage of which goes to charity. Full Tilt pro Phil Gordon, however, made sure it was a slightly higher percentage – the winner of the $5,000 event has agreed to donate the $130,641 to charity.

Gordon beat American Pie star and poker-playing beauty Shannon Elizabeth heads-up after Gordon’s Q3o outdrew her KT in the last hand. The prettier of the two finalists takes home over $80,000 for her efforts and was evidently not disappointed in the win, rushing over to hug Gordon when the last river card fell.

"I know this isn't a bracelet event, but it feels like one," said Gordon to PokerNews, with Elizabeth agreeing: "I wish the rest of my WSOP had gone the way this tournament went," she said.

The Ante up for Africa website has many ways for you to donate to the cause, so don’t worry if you missed this event.

The full final table payouts were as follows:
1. Phil Gordon $130,641
2. Shannon Elizabeth $80,737
3. Alex Filatov $56,516
4. Carter Phillips $41,166
5. Erik Seidel $30,287
6. Jerome Bettis $22,624
7. Barry Hartheimer $18,146
8. Kyle Carlston $15,125
9. Claire Renaut $12,998
