The World Series of Poker (WSOP) and the Global Poker Index (GPI) will work together this summer to rank the best player of the summer.

Highlighted during the recent WSOP media conference call but officially confirmed last night, the partnership will see the GPI use its ranking formula to power the Player of the Series table.

To mark the occasion the GPI will be hosting the data on its website and poker fans will be able to track the data throughout the Series to see which players are vying for the title. For the player who wins the title, which is likely to be decided after the WSOP Europe in October, a one-of-a-kind trophy will be theirs, as will a banner bearing their image in the Rio for the rest of time.

"We are very honoured to have entered into this agreement with the WSOP and I am truly excited to develop several initiatives that will support the growth of the sport of poker. This partnership also allows the Global Poker Index to expand its reach in North America and all over the world," said Alex Dreyfus of the GPI.

In addition to providing statistical data, the GPI will also work with the WSOP to help promote the live tournament festival. Moreover, the GPI will also be offering Fantasy Poker Manager games for fans to enjoy during the festival as well as a GPI WSOP Player Party during the summer festival.

"I'm pleased to grow our relationship with the Global Poker Index around the Player of the Year," said Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director.
