WSOP Main Event betting

Saturday, 7 July 2012

The opening flight of the 2012 WSOP Main Event gets under way later today and there's still a way to have an interest even if you're thousands of miles from Vegas.

A number of sites are running a selection of Main Event markets including outright winner, reaching the final table, making the money and best UK and Ireland finisher. If you fancy trying to pick the proverbial needle in the haystack and find an outright winner you'll find Phil Ivey heading the market at bet365 at 40/1. Allen Cunningham is at 50/1 alongside, unbelievably, Chris Ferguson. Phil Hellmuth is at 66/1 with Daniel Negreanu at 80/1. Of course the likelihood is that this year's Main Event will be someone we've never heard of.

Perhaps picking a top name pro to cash is a more realistic proposition and Sportingbet is offering plenty of opportunities. One Drop winner Antonio Esfandiari is on offer at 4/1 to make the money as are Hellmuth and Michael Mizrachi. Phil Ivey is a skinny 14/5 to cash while Chris Moorman is 10/3. Viktor Blom is available at 9/2 to make the money in his first Main Event.

SportingBet is also offering a best GB and Ireland finisher market which is headed by Chris Moorman, JP Kelly, Jake Cody and $10m man Sam Trickett at 9/1. James Akenhead and Praz Bansi are at 10/1, with John Eames, Richard Ashby and Toby Lewis at 11/1.

And where will the Bluff tenner be going? We like Jason Mercier to cash at 16/5 and as a speculative punt we'll be backing Jack Ellwood in the outright at 1000/1.
