In a field so big, it wasn’t surprising that the list of
casualties was vast. Some of the notable players who fell during
the day included:
Jerry Yang, Brian Townsend, Eric Lynch, John Juanda, Danny Wong,
Matt Savage, Clonie Gowen, Shannon Elizabeth, Jordan Rich, Brad
Booth, Bill Chen, Howard Lederer, Mel Judah, Isabelle Mercier,
Steve Wong, Sorel Mizzi, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Joe Hachem,
David Sklansky, David Oppenheim, Padraig Parkinson, David Singer
and Amir Vahedi.
Carlos Mortensen was another who busted on Day 2B, although his
exit was more painful than most when he flopped the dreaded set
versus set on a Q-T-2 board. His trip deuces were down to one out
against trip queens.
One former World Champion who had a good day was Phil Hellmith,
who finished up on the day on 200,000. With the bright lights of
the ESPN cameras on him, Hellmuth was in fine fettle, with verbal
jousting with some of the aspiring players around him, and some
rather sexy play with a pair of threes. That’s all we’re going to
say on that one.
Notable players at the right end of the chip counts include Alex
Outhred on 486,800, Victor Ramdin (358,000), and Nenad Medic
(294,000). Day 3 will see 1,308 players come back to try and make
it to the last 666, where the prize money will be made.
