With the World Series of Poker (WSOP) fast approaching, the festival’s Tournament Director Jack Effel hosted a Q&A session yesterday to discuss the plan for this year's Series.
Flanked by the WSOP’s Executive Director Ty Stewart, Effel said that one of their goals is to “kick off the Series with a bang”. One of the most anticipated tournaments will be the $1,500 Millionaire Matchmaker tournament. The affordable buy-in will guarantee the winner a top prize of $1 million and be one of the early highlights of this year’s Series. Effel went on to assure players and reporters that each tournament will be limited to 11 levels of play each day to help alleviate tournament burnout. “I can tell you 99 out of 100 times we're not going to play more than 11 levels on any day.” On top of this, the Daily Deepstack events, which run alongside the WSOP, will all be tracked and the top performing player before the Main Event will receive free entry to the $10,000 tournament. Away from the felt, the Rio has sanctioned the return of All-American Dave and his healthy meal options for players. In addition to Dave offering a personalised service to players, the fitness expert will also partner with the Rio’s food truck in order to offer all players a healthier food alternative. This year’s WSOP kicks off on May 29 and will run through until July 15. The full schedule is available at WSOP.com.
