WSOP Glory for Mike Gorodinsky

WSOP Glory for Mike Gorodinsky

Friday, 26 June 2015

After two top three finishes in this year's World Series of Poker Mike Gorodinsky has finally got his hands on a bracelet after winning the WSOP $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

"I feel amazing," Gorodinsky told WSOP.com. "This is literally something that I’ve gone to bed dreaming about, and it’s just cool to legitimately realize a dream. So it’s just an amazing day. An amazing five days."

The American finished third in the $5k Six-Handed NLHE and second in Razz Championship but made no mistake in what is arguably the most prestigious event in the whole of the World Series.

The starting field of 84 runners was a who's who of top class tournament talent. A quick look at the names that made the money reveal just how strong. Former champ Matthew Ashton, PokerStars pro Jason Mercier, Dan Kelly, Ben Sulsky and David 'ODB' Baker were among the notables to make a deep run at the title. None could match Gorodisnky though who beat Jean-Robert Bellande to secure his second WSOP bracelet and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.

Gorodinsky was gracious in victory, acknowledging that he ran well as well as played well. “I’d like to think that I’m playing really great, that I’m making all the right decisions. But you know, the cards are hitting me in the face. I’m running really good. And I’ve been really focused on playing, I’ve been putting in my hours, and it’s paying off.”

With a payday of $1,270,086 it most certainly is.
