Following a very successful 2015, the World Poker Tour (WPT) is set to begin next year in record-breaking fashion courtesy of a new $200,000 buy-in super high-roller event.
Being held as part of the WPT National Philippines Festival of Poker, which is scheduled to run from January 2 to 8 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila, the super high-roller no-limit hold‘em event will feature the WPT’s highest ever buy-in and take place over January 3 and 4.“We at Poker King Club always aim to push the boundaries of poker, which led to us being named the ‘home of the world’s biggest game’,” said Winfred Yu, President and Chief Executive Officer for tournament organiser Poker King Club.“That aim is now coming to the WPT National Philippines Festival of Poker with a super high-roller and we are happy to add the gravitas of well-known poker players into that mix such as 2015 Aussie Millions champion and businessman Richard Yong.”The upcoming WPT National Philippines Festival of Poker will also feature a $330 buy-in no-limit hold‘em deep stack tournament alongside a $275 buy-in pot-limit Omaha game, a $770 buy-in second-chance match, a $165 buy-in ladies event and a $5,400 buy-in high-roller contest alongside its customary $1,650 buy-in main event.“After experiencing tremendous success in Manila Bay during Season XIII and generating yet another million-dollar prize pool this season in Sanya, the WPT is proud to return to the Asia-Pacific region this January for the WPT National Philippines Festival of Poker at the Solaire Resort and Casino,” said Adam Pliska, President and Chief Executive Officer for the WPT.“With the addition of the $200,000 buy-in super high-roller, the largest buy-in in WPT history, we look forward to welcoming some of the best poker players on tour to the Philippines along with some of the world’s wealthiest enthusiasts. Having personally spent time at the Solaire Resort and Casino, I am confident that all of the attendees will discover that it is one of the finest resort destinations in the world.”
