The World Poker Tour (WPT) will make its own little piece of history today when it rolls into Amsterdam with its first ever Main Event.
Although the tour has given players a chance to ante-up in the Dutch capital in previous years, this will be the first time a €3,300 Main Event will be on offer. To ensure local and travelling players get as much chance as possible to enjoy the fabulous Holland Casino, the WPT is putting on two starting days with a single re-entry allowed for players on each day. That means everyone that makes the trip to Amsterdam can enter the Main Event four times if they wish. Already the start list is looking good with a number of famous names ready to exchange bets in an attempt to take home a WPT title. One player who will be trying for gold on Day 1b will be the UK's Jack Salter. The young pros made it through to the final of the €6,000 High Roller over the weekend and is now poised to take on Jason Wheeler. The high stakes tournament attracted 76 players on Friday which means by the time the betting stops later today either Salter or Wheeler will be taking home a WPT trophy and €125,000. In addition to offering high rollers a chance to make some cash, the WPT's staff have organised a slew of side events, including a mixed PLO and Hold'em event costing €330 as well as a €1,500 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em event which will get underway on Thursday. Overall, the first ever WPT Main Event in Amsterdam (which is also the first European WPT event of the new season), should provide a huge amount of action for players and fans throughout the week.
