WPT Boss Addresses EPT Dates Clash

Wednesday, 16 October 2013

Fixture pile ups are a fact of life in football but thankfully very rarely occur in poker. It looks as if the computer may dished up an own goal next year though with the World Poker Tour Championship event is set to clash with the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

Organisers confirmed that the WPT Championship event will take place in its new home of the Bellagio from 22-26 April which would appear to be bad news for players hoping to play both that and the EPT showpiece.

WPT President Adam Pliska issued a statement yesterday addressing concerns from players who hope to play in both events, saying that the potential conflict was something that they 'were acutely aware of'.

Pliska confirmed that the WPT had 'been in close discussions' with their EPT couterparts 'to find the best solution for players who want to play both events' adding that 'there is only the slightest overlap and players can play both events – the only exception being those that make the final table of the WPT Main Event.'

Day 1a of the EPT Grand Final takes place on Saturday 26th April, the same day as the WPT Championship final table. A second opening EPT Grand Final flight follows on Sunday 27th April with players able to buy-in prior to the start of Day 2 on Monday 28th April.

“We will continue to work with other tours for the benefit of the poker community,” said Pliska. “The tight nature of this scheduling was unavoidable, but we feel we have done our best to accommodate players.”
