Victoria Coren Leaves PokerStars

Victoria Coren Leaves PokerStars

Thursday, 27 November 2014

Victoria Coren, one of the UK's best loved poker players and a stalwart of Team PokerStars, has decided to walk away from her sponsorship deal.

Following the news that PokerStars was prepping its platforms to offer casino games, Coren made the bold decision to call it a day and say goodbye to a company that she's represented since 2007.

Coren's decision to part ways with PokerStars was a swift one, coming just a day after she found out about the casino plan, but it wasn't until yesterday that she made the news public via her blog.

"On Friday night, PokerStars.com announced that it will be rolling out online casino gaming alongside its internet poker. As a result, on Saturday morning, I terminated my endorsement contract with them," Coren wrote.

Although she maintains that her decision wasn't motivated by a desire to attack PokerStars or its decision to offer casino games, Coren felt that her inability to promote purely poker had been compromised. Moreover, despite the sudden announcement, Coren is on good terms with staff at PokerStars and many were quick to sing her praises after the news went public.

"I cannot professionally and publicly endorse it, even passively by silence with my name still over the shop. Poker is the game I love, poker is what I signed up to promote," she explained.

In addition to the likes of Lee Jones and Eric Hollreiser thanking Coren for her work and reminding us of her greatness, dozens of poker players and fans have also applauded her decision. Although sticking to her principles might cost her some money each year, Coren appears content with her decision.

"Sorel Mizzi - @VictoriaCoren Very honourable thing to do Vicky. Much respect!"

"David Baker - Major props to @VictoriaCoren what a boss move. Well done!"

"Niall Farrell - @VictoriaCoren very admirable actions, hopefully see you on the felt again soon (with a chocolate 'Frijj' obviously)"
