Vanessa Selbst leads WSOP-C Regional Championship

Monday, 20 December 2010

The second run of the newly-introduced World Series of Poker Circuit $10,000 Regional Championships began yesterday, this one the Northeast Championship at Harrah’s Atlantic City – guess they’ve not changed the name to Caesar’s yet. In total, 136 players put up the fee to enter in the five-figure tournament.

The field is smaller than that of the inaugural $10,000 event for the Midwest that saw Jim Anderson beat a field of 226 in order to take home the $525,449 first place prize as well as a WSOP Circuit ring and a spot in the 2011 WSOP Main Event. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough then he wins entry into a $1,000,000 WSOP Circuit National Championship freeroll as well.

Looking to join him there is none other than Vanessa “fslexcduck” Selbst, who came flying out of the gate on Day 1 to lead the 93 remaining players after eight levels of play. Despite her outrageous tournament poker resume – a NAPT title for $750,000 and the Partouche Poker Tour title for $1.8m in 2010 alone – she has stiff competition with the likes of Isaac Baron, Dan Kelly, David Baker and David Sands breathing down her neck.

Day 2 begins today and sees Selbst lead the 93 survivors of Day 1 as the field is further whittled down. The average stack when play begins at noon local time today will be 44,000; good for 88 big blinds at the 250/500 level at which play restarts.
