Vanessa Selbst Heads $25k PCA High Roller

Monday, 13 January 2014

A historic double could be on the cards in the $25,000 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller as defending champ Vanessa Selbst leads with just 14 players left.

Selbst finished third in the PCA $100,000 Super High Roller last week and is well placed for another big score when play resumes. She'll be back with 1,633,000, just ahead of Portugal's Joao Vieira (1,604,000) and Brazil's Myro Garcia (1,181,000).

A total of 247 entries means a record-breaking prize pool of $6,051,500 with $1,279,900 on offer to the eventual winner. Among the notable names still gunning for that huge payday are Greg Merson (1,112,000), Robert Mizrachi (852,000), Dani Stern (837,000) and Daniel Negreanu (723,000).

This being a High Roller, the chances are that there'll be a player from Germany there or thereabouts when the big money is being doled out. The sole remaining German is Marvin Rettenmaier who will return in sixth place on 1,014,000 when the action resumes at noon local time (5pm GMT).

British hopes rest with Super High Roller bubble boy Paul Newey who is 14th out of 14 final day survivors on 162,000.

Fabian Quoss, Jake Cody, Ana Marquez, Olivier Busquet, Jonathan Duhamel and Philipp Gruissem all made the money but busted on the penultimate day.

The chip counts are as follows:

Vanessa Selbst - 1,633,000
Jaoa Viera -- 1,604,000
Myro Garcia - 1,181,000
Greg Merson -- 1,112,000

Aleksandr Denisov - 626,000
