Trickett among leaders in $100k WPT High Roller

Thursday, 24 May 2012

As expected, the big hitters were out in force for the Super High Roller event at the WPT Championship with a total of 32 entrants taking a shot at $100,000 a pop. 19 players will be back for day two.

Leading the way is recent EPT Grand Final Super High Roller winner Justin Bonomo who bagged up 1,433,000 chips by the close of the opening day. Bonomo needed a hefty slice of luck to get into seven figures though, winning a pre flop all-in pot with AK against Erik Seidel's pocket Aces. The Seiborg still managed to survive the day but returns as one of the short stacks.

Like Seidel and Bonomo, Sam Trickett is no stranger to success in ridiculously high buy-in events and is well placed in this one. The former Titan pro will start day two fifth in the chip counts with 890,000. Also riding high are Jean Noel Thorel 1,214,000, Tom Marchese 1,076,000 and Dan Smith 913,000.

There's plenty of quality further down the leader board too with Isaac Haxton, Phil Galfond and David Sands all with above average stacks.

Registration remains open until shortly after the start of play tomorrow so precise details of the prize pool are yet to be determined. Needless to say the winner will be walking away with a huge sum. Join us tomorrow for updates.
