Tony G has the heart to bet on himself; Robl hasn’t the ears

James Bord isn’t alone on making big claims – and backing them up with big cash – at the World Series of Poker Europe. Whereas Bord will refund bets up to $500 if a US player wins the event, Tony G has gone for the more direct route and bet $20,000 on himself to cash in the WSOPE at 5/1.

Tony G is currently sitting down for Day 3, where the field of 116 will make it to the money so this is a €10,000 and $20,000 day for the loudmouthed Aussie. If he’s on his bike he will have lost more than most who hit the rail at the World Series of Poker Europe.

He also made news by being involved in a somewhat controversial hand with Andrew Robl that saw the young Internet player, who has a history with Tony G on televised poker games, bet 11,000. Tony G matched him in chips but verbally declared “all in”.

Robl failed to hear him and flipped his hand, owing to his noise-cancelling Beatz by Dre headphones. In the end, a floorperson and then WSOP tournament director Jack Effel both backed up Tony G’s action as the dealer and other players had heard the verbal declaration. Robl called with his straight and lost out to a flush.
