Tom “durrrr” Dwan wins $460,000 in durrrr challenge

Wednesday, 4 August 2010

With a little over 10,000 hands to play in the four-tabling $200/$400 PLO challenge between Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius, the 23-year-old Dwan holds a lead of over $2,000,000. It’s not quite impenetrable, but it’s damn close.

The swings in the challenge have been consistently huge but Dwan has been ahead of Antonius for over 14,000 hands now with a peak of almost $2.5m ahead – not to mention the $500,000 he will receive if he stays ahead until hand number 50,000.

The largest pot occurred when they were both 200BBs deep and could not have been played any differently – on a Qc-9c-3s board in a 5-bet pot the money went in to create a total pot size of $157,600. Dwan held KQQT for top set and a gutshot while Antonius had been screwed by Lady Luck, flipping up a crushed Q986 for top two pair. He couldn’t hit a miracle straight or runner-runners and saw a 400BB pot go to durrrr.

Overall, Dwan played more than 1,500 hands yesterday including the 181 challenge hands. However these made up the bulk of his $572,200 in winnings from yesterday.
