Tuesday, 9 September 2014

The staring field of 404 at the WPT Merit Classic Northern Cyprus has been whittled down to just 30.

Antonio Buonanno (1,175,000) leads the charge for the $325,000 first prize followed by Serdar Saglam (800,000) and Christian Christner (721,000).

The biggest name amongst the final 30 is Toby Lewis. The former EPT Vilamoura champion is well placed to add a World Poker Tour title to his impressive tournament CV, returning in seventh place with 617,000.

The only WPT Champions Club member still in contention is Russia's Dmitry Gromov. The 2011 WPT Vienna winner is just behind Lewis in ninth place on 559,000.

One notable name who won't be challenging is Sam Trickett. Retford's finest was the last man out before the close of play yesterday, departing in 31st with $9,500 to his name.

Other familiar faces to make the money but hit the rail included Andrey Pateychuck, Albert Daher and Daniel Rudd.
