After the World Series of Poker summer hiatus, the British tournament circuit ground back into action this weekend with the latest leg of the Genting Poker Series.
297 players were on hand for the Newcastle leg of the tour and after three days of action it was Tim Chung who walked away with the biggest chunk of change.Chung started the final day with the chip lead, but with the likes of Willie Tann, Keith Hawkins, Brett Angell and Rob Yong amongst the final dozen, victory was anything but a gimme.Hawkins was the first of the big names to go, hitting the rail in fifth when his all in shove with 9-5 was looked up by Willie Tann who was holding A8. Both players missed completely to send Hawkins out with £7,000.Rob Yong was the next to go, again at the hands of Tann. The Dusk Till Dawn chief was in bad shape with A5 against Tann's AJ and despite flopping a gutshot, couldn't improve.Tann, who started the day as the short stack, eventually busted in third. A chop looked the most likely outcome when he went all with A4 against Brett Angell's A8, especially after a 3-Q-7 flop. The turn was another 7 followed by a 6 on the river which meant that Angell's 8 kicker played.Heads up play started with Chung holding an almost 2 to 1 chip lead and it didn't take him long to put that advantage to good use. Angell moved all in on a A-K-6 board and was looked up by Chung who revealed KQ which was well ahead of Angell's K3. The 4 and 2 on the turn and river helped neither player to give Chung the title and £32,815 payday. The final table positions and payouts were as follows:1st - £32,815 - Tim Chung2nd - £22,750 - Brett Angell3rd - £15,310 - Willie Tann4th - £9,185 - Rob Yong5th - £7,000 - Keith Hawkins6th - £5,500 - Colin Turnbull7th - £4,190 - Tom Brady8th - £3,310 - George Harle9th - £2,630 - John Stirling10th - £2,060 - Matt DavenportDusk Till Dawn in Nottingham is the venue for the next leg of the Genting Poker Series from Thursday 18 September.
