Tighe wins GUKPT Walsall

Tighe wins GUKPT Walsall

While the masses have been fighting it out in Las Vegas for the WSOP main event bracelet, a select field of grinders recently concluded their battle for the latest GUKPT title.

Kicking off on Thursday, GUKPT Walsall welcomed 172 entrants over the course of two starting days but it was David Tighe who bested all to assert his dominance.

Having watched the likes of Julian Thew fall in eighth place, Tighe was able to snatch the chip lead and gradually increase his grip on the final table as more players fell.

From the midway point of the tournament it looked as though Tighe would take the title and he eventually lived up to the promise after beating Charlie Denton heads-up.

Although he held a healthy chip lead over his opponent, Tighe had to work hard to scoop the last of his opponent’s chips and finally triumphed after his pocket sevens faded any outdraws against Denton’s A-4. With that, Tighe was able to lift the latest GUKPT trophy as well as the £24,910 top prize.

Finals results for GUKPT Walsall:

1 David Tighe £24,910

2 Charlie Denton £17,420

3 Tim Slater £10,970

4 Charles Ihle £6,660

5 Mr G £5,160

6 Gerard Haggarty £4,090

7 Mark Hester £3,220

8 Julian Thew £2,370

9 Craig Blyth £1,610
