Thuy Doan passes away aged 25

Monday, 5 September 2011

Twitter has been flooded with sadness and condolences after it was announced that Thuy Doan had passed away from cancer at the age of 25. The poker player and PokerRoad blogger was well known and loved within the poker community and will be sorely missed.

Thuy was born in Vietnam and moved to the US aged 7. Since she turned 21, she had been taking poker seriously and started her burgeoning professional career off with a bang, final tabling the $3,000 NL event at the 2008 WSOP. Being a beautiful woman, poker fame came fairly easily to her and she was quickly picked up for sponsorship.

She was diagnosed with cancer and lost a leg but battled through it to return to the felt. You may remember that Tom Dwan, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey and others all shaved their heads in support of Doan at this point.
Sadly, Doan couldn’t fight forever and the cancer that claimed her leg eventually claimed her life. She was just 25.
