Just 51 players are still in the hunt for the WPT Spanish Championship after a rapid day's play at the Casino de Barcelona yesterday.

Leading the way at the close of play was Symon Pieszczoch who bagged up 411,000 chips putting him well ahead of Jesus Cortes Lisano on 320,000 and Romain Matteoli on 297,500. Day 1A chip leader Artur Koren is still very much in contention on 269,500 as is Briton Daniel Graham Morgan. The youngster recently won the Oxford Cup Student Championship and returns today in the top ten in the chip counts with 221,000.

The self styled, “xxxxing boss of the room” Erik Sullivan made it through to Day 3 with 76,000, as did other notable names Per Jacobson and Juha Helppi.

The bubble will burst later today with 27 making the money. Play will then continue until a final table is decided. It could be a late one given that play will be suspended for the Champions League final.
